Shopify case studies: B2B wholesale and trade-only commerce

Two projects where OUXP built Shopify commerce around requirements no standard theme covers: wholesale pricing in CAD and USD for an industrial supplier, and a trade-only channel with custom production requests for a wallcovering studio. If your pricing, products or workflows have outgrown a standard theme, start with the case closest to your store. Moving from Magento or another platform? See how our migrations run.

Which project is closest to your store?

Pick the store that sounds most like yours – each card jumps to the full case below, with the services that solve the same problem.

  • CleanFlow

    Industrial supply · Canada

Thousands of SKUs, wholesale pricing and CAD/USD selling in one storefront

Closest if you sell to trade and public-sector buyers in two countries and two currencies.

  • Wall Snobs

    Luxury wallcoverings · USA

A trade-only channel with gated pricing, sample orders and custom requests

Closest if you sell only to approved trade buyers and take custom orders.

CleanFlow: enterprise catalog and cross-border B2B on Shopify

  1. Challenge

A multi-brand industrial supplier serving contractors and municipalities in Canada and the US. Thousands of SKUs sit in deeply nested categories – workwear, pumps, water treatment, waterworks – and wholesale buyers need account pricing in CAD or USD. The store had to carry that B2B complexity without slowing down.

  2. Solution

A Shopify architecture built around the catalog: a deep mega-menu taxonomy, a wholesale account portal, separate Canada and US markets in their own currencies, and navigation built to stay fast in every category.

  3. Result

One storefront handles thousands of SKUs, wholesale account pricing and CAD/USD selling – without the navigation slowdowns that large industrial catalogs usually suffer.

Relevant if your store…

  • Sells to trade, contractor or public-sector buyers as well as retail customers
  • Has thousands of SKUs in deep category trees
  • Sells into Canada and the US, with prices in both currencies
  • Gets slower to browse every time the catalog grows

Wall Snobs: trade-only commerce and custom production workflows

  1. Challenge

A trade-only wallcovering studio that prints in-house needed more than a standard storefront: trade applications with approval, per-square-foot pricing only members can see, free sample orders and custom pattern requests – color, scale, layout, a client’s brand assets. No off-the-shelf Shopify theme covered any of it.

  2. Solution

We built the trade experience on Shopify: an application and account gate, pricing visible only to signed-in members, a sample order flow and a custom-request pipeline that connects designers directly to the print studio.

  3. Result

Trade buyers do everything on the site: apply, see their pricing once approved, order samples and send custom requests that go straight to the print studio.

About this review

Outstanding Experience is OUXP’s full name, and the name some merchants use in their reviews.

Relevant if your store…

  • Sells only to designers, architects or other approved trade buyers
  • Has to hide prices until an account is approved
  • Uses samples as part of the sale
  • Takes orders for custom versions of its products

Moving to Shopify from Magento or another platform?

The two cases above are about what a store has to do. If you are changing platforms, the migration proof we can publish today is a client’s own review of the store migration we delivered, and the process every migration follows.

Every Magento and Adobe Commerce migration runs in the same seven steps, and each one ends with an output you check before the next one starts: discovery, mapping, a build in a separate development store, a pilot import reconciled against the old store, a full launch rehearsal, launch and monitoring. Your current store keeps trading until cutover.

The mapping step decides where everything goes: variant strategy, attribute-to-metafield map, extension map and 301 map. That is where catalog structure, product options and extensions are redesigned for Shopify’s model rather than copied one-to-one. SEO preservation – URL map, 301 redirects, metadata, structured data and post-launch monitoring – is included in every migration, never sold as an add-on. The price and timeline are fixed in writing after the free migration assessment, before work starts. Still comparing platforms? The Magento vs Shopify Plus guide sets the two side by side.

Relevant if your store…

  • Runs on Magento 1 or 2 or Adobe Commerce, and every upgrade turns into a project
  • Still hosts, patches and secures its store itself
  • Has configurable products, kits or options that won’t copy one-to-one into Shopify
  • Has years of search rankings and URLs to protect through the move

Is your store hitting the same limits?

Industrial parts and wallcoverings have little in common, but the problems behind these builds come up again and again – and so does the one that makes a Magento store hard to move. If one sounds like your store, the link under it is where to start.

Prices that depend on who is buying

CleanFlow gives approved wholesale accounts their own pricing in CAD or USD; Wall Snobs shows per-square-foot prices only to signed-in trade members. Since April 2, 2026, Shopify’s core B2B tools work on every paid plan, so the first question is whether your pricing model needs Plus at all.

Catalogs too big for a standard menu

Thousands of SKUs in nested categories break the usual theme patterns: mega menus get heavy, collection pages slow down and buyers stop finding the part they need. CleanFlow’s taxonomy and navigation were built to stay fast across the full catalog.

  • 03

Product logic that has outgrown Magento

Configurable products – matched systems, kits, made-to-order options – are what make a Magento store hard to move. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants per product but only 3 options, so configurable products need a new data model rather than a one-to-one copy.

Work that continues after the order

Some requests end at a print studio or a stockroom, not at checkout. Wall Snobs’ custom pattern requests go straight to production, and Dive Bar Shirt Club needed a central inventory system that works with its custom setup. That calls for a workflow or a custom app, not another theme section.

“We brought in OUXP for some CRO fixes and theme/app compatibility issues, and they absolutely overdelivered. They didn't just patch things - they tracked down the real root causes… we're seeing a clear bump in conversions.”

Questions about our work

Cost, timelines, plans and the reviews on this page. Something else? Ask an engineer.

How long do Shopify projects like these take, and what do they cost?

Custom work on an existing Shopify store – trade gating, account portals, request workflows – is quoted up front: small theme changes start at $500, most single customizations cost $1,000–$5,000 and larger builds like these two are scoped as projects. Moving off Magento typically takes 8–24+ weeks and costs $50,000–$180,000; from Adobe Commerce, plan for 10–24+ weeks and $60,000–$200,000. The free migration assessment gives you a band within 2 business days, and the price is fixed in writing before work starts. Unsure what to fix first? A $2,500 store audit delivers a prioritized plan in 5 business days.

Do we need Shopify Plus for wholesale or trade-only pricing?

Not always. Since April 2, 2026, Shopify’s core B2B features work on every paid plan: company accounts with several buyers and locations, up to 3 B2B catalogs, volume pricing and quantity rules, net payment terms and a B2B checkout. Plus adds scale and control: more than 3 catalogs, catalogs assigned to specific companies, deposits, partial payments and custom checkout logic. As of October 2026, Shopify Plus costs from $2,300/month on a three-year term or $2,500/month on a one-year term – our Shopify Plus pricing guide covers the other fees.

Can Shopify handle the configurable products in our Magento store?

Yes, but rarely as a one-to-one copy of a Magento setup. Since October 2025 Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants per product on every plan, but still only 3 options per product. Matched systems, kits and calculators therefore need a different data model – bundles, metafields and metaobjects, or custom app logic for the matching rules – and we design it before any data moves. The Magento to Shopify Plus migration page explains how.

Are the client reviews on this page real?

Yes. Every quote is copied word for word from our listing on the Shopify Partner Directory, where only merchants who have worked with a partner can leave a rating; ours is 4.9/5 from 263 reviews. Long reviews are shortened to an excerpt, but we never add to or change a client’s words. Some reviews name our engineers or use our full name, Outstanding Experience. Our Upwork agency profile (external site) is a second, independent record: Top Rated on Upwork with 100% Job Success.

Why don’t these case studies show conversion or revenue numbers?

Because no client has confirmed a figure for publication yet, and we don’t present estimates as results. A number goes on this page only when the client approves it and we can state the baseline, the period and how it was measured. Until then each case describes in words what we built and why, and any result figures on this page are merchants’ own words in their reviews.

Do you work with stores outside industrial supply and wallcoverings?

Yes. The industries we build for most often are fashion and apparel; beauty and cosmetics; health and wellness; industrial and manufacturing; CPG, food and beverage; luxury; and B2B. Each breaks in different places – drop-day traffic, subscriptions, compliance-sensitive claims, quote workflows, net terms – and the reviews on this page come from several of them. Commerce engineering by industry shows what we usually build for each.
